SOAPBOX SATURDAY

is a family-friendly, car-themed event designed to raise
Autism Acceptance & Awesomeness in the South Okanagan.

We will celebrate the accomplishments, skills, & possibilities
of and for those on the Autism Spectrum.

We will make new friends & connections
in the Okanagan Autism community,
& come together to support each other & our families.

The event will take place at 3547 Skaha Lake Road, Penticton.

AUSTIN RILEY

Austin Riley, of North York (ON), is the world's first Professional Race Car Driver with Autism. Austin and his father will speak about how he overcame challenges to reach his dreams.

"Our goal is to raise awareness for autism by harnessing the power of story telling. By sharing Austin’s story with the world, we aim to educate, inspire, and as a result empower each and every person we come in contact with. Empower those with autism to do great things and empower those without it by providing them with a deeper level of love and empathy for their fellow human beings."

SOAPBOX DERBY

Grab your tools, some old wood, and get building! This is the perfect opportunity to have some family-fun in your workshop. Soapbox racers will start on our specially designed ramp, and zoom across our flat parking lot. This will be a fun and safe event (note: RedBull Racers need not apply!).

In order to maintain a fun, safe, family-friendly atmosphere we have a few rules:

All soap box cars must have 4 wheels.
Each cars must be gravity powered (no motors, engines, or pedals).
Cars are typically 4 ft. to 6 ft. long and 2 ft. to 3 ft. wide and generally made of wood, however there is no limitation on size, weight, materials or designs. As this is a family event please keep designs and paint jobs respectful (i.e. no profanity).
Your car must be able to turn.
Your cart must have brakes.
Drivers must wear a helmet.
Drivers must have a completed permission form to participate.

The internet has all kinds of pictures and plans for your car. Do some research, make some plans, be safe, and have fun!

AUTISM REALITY EXPERIENCE

"The Autism Reality Experience is designed to give participants a virtual experience of living with autism. This is a very practical, hands on experience that gives participants a greater insight into autism and helps us see the world from an autistic person’s perspective.

The experience will allow people to feel first hand the physical and emotional effects of sensory overload. The result will be a deeper understanding of someone's needs and often a more empathetic approach."

Guest must be at least 16 years old. Minimum donation of $25.00. Spots are limited, and must be booked and paid for in advance. Medical Disclaimer must be completed prior to admittance.

NAVIGATE-NIDES
POTATO DERBY

Have you ever heard of a Zucchini Race? Well, we are going to switch the veggies and have a Potato Derby!

Bring your own pre-made potato car, or for $2.00 build one onsite! The veggie-mobiles will race down the 'Russet Ramp' to see who wins the checkered flag.

We will have potatoes, wheels, "nails", chopsticks, flags, and rubber mallets.

It should be spud-tacular good time!
